Eleven brilliant but financially struggling students have received a lifeline through the annual “Back to School Campaign” championed by Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a journalist with OTEC 102.9 FM. The initiative, which raised GH₵11,200 this year, was organized in collaboration with the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies and was dedicated to supporting tertiary-level students.

The campaign brought together benevolent individuals and philanthropists who contributed generously to ease the burden of needy students. Among the notable donors were Mr. Emmanuel Boakye Fampem, Chief Executive Officer of Fapem Constructions; Kwaku Owusu Boateng, popularly known as KOB, host of OTEC FM’s morning show; philanthropist Paa Frank from Kunsu; Akakpo Gerhard; and Mama Unice. Their collective support ensured that the school fees of eleven deserving students were fully paid, preventing them from interrupting their academic journey.
At a brief presentation ceremony held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Kwame Agyenim Boateng handed over the funds to the SRC executives, who immediately disbursed them for the payment of the students’ fees. In his remarks, he expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who had donated towards the campaign, emphasizing the importance of education as a transformative tool. He explained that the motivation behind the initiative was to provide opportunities for students with academic potential but limited financial means, encouraging the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make the most of the opportunity offered them.
“We are thrilled to support these brilliant but needy students. Education is the foundation for a better future, and it is our hope that this gesture will inspire the beneficiaries to work hard, remain disciplined, and achieve their goals,” he said, noting that the campaign was not only about financial assistance but also about instilling hope and resilience in the next generation.
The SRC President, Dickson Mensah, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude to both the organizers and the donors. He disclosed that the student body had established a scholarship account to support needy students and appealed to corporate organizations, philanthropists, and individuals to contribute to the fund in order to sustain the initiative. He observed that many students at the institution faced financial challenges that threatened their education and underscored the importance of partnerships like the “Back to School Campaign” in breaking down barriers to academic success.
The initiative has once again highlighted the role of community support in bridging the gap between potential and opportunity. By bringing together philanthropists, media personalities, and students, the campaign demonstrated the impact of collective action in securing the future of young people. For the beneficiaries, the payment of their fees was not just financial relief but also an affirmation that society values their efforts and is willing to invest in their dreams.
The “Back to School Campaign,” spearheaded by Kwame Agyenim Boateng, continues to grow as a platform of hope and empowerment. Beyond easing financial pressures, it is shaping the narrative that education must never be sacrificed because of poverty. As the supported students return to their studies with renewed confidence, the initiative stands as a shining example of how dedication, unity, and generosity can transform lives and pave the way for a brighter future.
