The award has placed Mr. Opoku among the most respected figures in the field of nursing and midwifery education.

As an academic and researcher, Mr. Opoku has contributed extensively to knowledge creation and the advancement of healthcare delivery. His scholarly works include the article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, published in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. The publication, which addresses the challenge of misinformation around vaccination, has been widely referenced for its practical approaches to strengthening health education and improving immunisation campaigns.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku expressed appreciation for the recognition and highlighted the central role of research in both education and healthcare. He explained that research is not only about generating academic knowledge but also about finding solutions to real-world challenges that affect patients, students, and communities. He called on students, practitioners, and educators to embrace research as a driving force for innovation and evidence-based practice in the health sector.

The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, held annually by the Ministry of Health, are designed to celebrate individuals and institutions that demonstrate innovation, leadership, and dedication to the health profession. The 2025 edition underscored the importance of education and research as key pillars in improving healthcare outcomes and training the next generation of professionals.

Staff, students, and stakeholders of Sampa Nursing Training College have welcomed the recognition with pride, describing it as a fitting reward for Mr. Opoku’s visionary leadership and tireless commitment to raising standards in nursing and midwifery training. Many believe that this achievement will further enhance the reputation of the college as one of the leading institutions in the Bono Region and across Ghana.
