In a remarkable act of generosity aimed at improving education in rural communities, prominent businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Alex Otoo Boah, has donated thousands of essential educational materials to two schools in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The donation, which took place over the weekend, benefited pupils of Abodom Brofoyedu D/A Basic School and Adwumamu D/A Basic School. Items presented included 5,000 exercise books, 2,000 notebooks, 1,000 pens, and several mathematical sets. The initiative was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and providing students with the necessary resources to excel academically.

Speaking at the brief but colorful ceremony, Mr. Otoo Boah emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in strengthening Ghana’s educational system. He noted that while the government is working hard to promote access to quality education, community members, philanthropists, and individuals have a vital role to play in ensuring that no child is left behind.

“It is vital for individuals to step in and support education in their communities. Many parents are struggling to provide basic learning materials for their children, and I believe this gesture will bring some relief,” Mr. Otoo Boah stated.

The philanthropist went further to announce a special financial package for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates from the two schools. Each candidate is set to receive GHC 3,000 to help them purchase prospectuses and adequately prepare for admission into senior high school. This gesture, he explained, is to encourage students to remain focused on their studies and motivate them to strive for academic excellence.

Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Hon. Mark Asamoah, Assembly Member for the Abodom Brofoyedu Electoral Area, expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Otoo Boah for his continuous dedication to supporting education in the district. He noted that the donation would significantly impact the lives of the students and ease the financial struggles of parents, particularly in these rural communities.

Mr. Benjamin Kwadwo Addai, Assistant Headteacher of Abodom Brofoyedu D/A Basic School, also commended Mr. Otoo Boah for his philanthropic spirit. He called on other community members and well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate this example, stressing that education is the surest way to break the cycle of poverty and secure a brighter future for children in the Amansie West District.

Parents and students present at the event were visibly excited, with many describing the donation as timely and life-changing. Some parents revealed that they often struggle to buy basic stationery for their children, especially during the current economic hardships. They, therefore, lauded Mr. Otoo Boah for stepping in to support them.

This latest philanthropic gesture adds to Mr. Otoo Boah’s growing list of community development initiatives. Over the years, he has supported various educational, health, and social projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of the Ashanti Region. His consistent commitment has earned him recognition as one of the leading advocates for education and rural development in the district.

The ceremony ended with a pledge from both school authorities and parents to make good use of the donated items and encourage the students to work hard to justify the investment made in their education.
