Tragedy struck the Shama District on the morning of Saturday, August 9, 2025, when a devastating motorbike accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old boy and left his elder brother in critical condition.
According to a report by TV3, the fatal crash occurred just a few meters from Shama Junction. The two brothers, identified as 18-year-old Nana Adjei and 25-year-old Kobina Atta, were travelling together on a motorbike when they collided head-on with another motorbike coming from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision threw both brothers violently off their bike and into the path of an oncoming Ivorian truck transporting cattle. Nana Adjei, who was riding pillion, died instantly from the force of the crash. His elder brother, who was at the controls, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to St. Benedict Hospital in Inchaban, where he is currently receiving urgent medical attention.
The rider of the other motorbike reportedly escaped with only minor injuries. Officers from the Sekondi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) swiftly responded to the scene to control traffic and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Family members, who live close to the accident scene, rushed to offer help after hearing of the crash. The body of the deceased was later conveyed to the mortuary. Their grieving mother, Madam Cecelia Blay, revealed that her sons had set out earlier in the morning to work as masons, only for the family to be struck with the heartbreaking news shortly after.
The incident has left the Shama community in deep shock, with many residents expressing concern over the alarming rise in motorbike accidents in the area. They are calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to protect lives.
Tragically, Saturday’s crash comes barely a day after another accident on the same stretch of road claimed two more lives, raising fresh concerns about safety on that route.
