KWABENYA QUEEN MOTHER ACCUSES GBESE MANTSE OF FUELING CHIEFTAINCY DISPUTE

A new layer of controversy has been added to the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the Ga State as the Queen Mother of Kwabenya, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II, has publicly accused the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II, of deliberately fueling tensions within the Ga Traditional Council.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Kwabenya, the visibly concerned Queen Mother was flanked by a cross-section of traditional leaders and elders from the Kwabenya area. She emphatically accused Nii Ayi Bonte II of attempting to destabilize the Ga State by meddling in the affairs of the Ga Mantse Stool, which she insists is already legally and traditionally occupied by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.

“The Ga State must stand united. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II is the only rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool, and any efforts to sow discord will not be tolerated,” Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II declared passionately to a gathering of journalists and sympathizers.

She described the actions of Nii Ayi Bonte II as “divisive and unacceptable,” warning that the continuous interference from certain quarters within the traditional setup threatens to derail peace and development within the Ga communities. According to her, the legitimacy of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has already been affirmed by both customary protocols and the appropriate judicial processes, making any further challenges unwarranted and inflammatory.

“We cannot allow a few individuals to hijack our sacred traditions for personal or political gain. The people of Ga Mashie and the broader Ga State are tired of the confusion. It is time for unity and progress,” she stressed.

Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II also called on the National House of Chiefs, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and other relevant stakeholders to intervene and uphold the rule of law to prevent the chieftaincy crisis from escalating into open conflict.

She urged the general public, especially the youth of the Ga State, to remain calm and not be swayed by misinformation or manipulation. “Let us protect our heritage by standing behind truth, tradition, and unity. The stool belongs to the people, not a few self-serving individuals,” she concluded.

This latest public outcry deepens the long-standing tensions within the Ga Traditional Council, where rival factions have, over the years, contested the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool—a position of immense cultural and political importance within the Greater Accra Region.

So far, the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II, has not issued an official response to the allegations. However, observers say this development could spark renewed calls for mediation and possibly a comprehensive dialogue among the Ga traditional authorities to resolve the lingering chieftaincy feud.

As tensions simmer, many residents and observers alike are urging all parties to prioritize peace, unity, and the collective development of the Ga State over personal interests.
