Abesim accomunity in the Sunyani East Municipality in the Bono Region came together in a vibrant display of unity and purpose.
Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi, in partnership with the Haimehen Foundation, hosted a thrilling inter-community football tournament that showcased youthful talent and community pride.
Eight local teams battled it out, with Extension FC emerging as the champions.
The tournament attracted a diverse audience, including traditional chiefs, youth leaders, and opinion leaders, all sharing a common vision with the Haimehen Foundation: to promote unity and multi-sectoral development among the youth of Sunyani East.
This event marked the Foundation’s first major stakeholder engagement, using recreational activity to sensitize the youth on its mission and gather insights for future interventions.
Inspired by the biblical story of Nehemiah, the Haimehen Foundation aims to empower the youth to “arise and build” their own future.
Dr. Nyame-Baafi, a senior lecturer at GIMPA and former Technical Economic Advisor to the Vice-President, expressed pride in the local talent displayed and encouraged the youth to remain dedicated.
He emphasized that with hard work, focus, and access to the right networks and support systems, opportunities would be created to help them overcome challenges.
The tournament celebrated the power of sports to bring people together and signalled the beginning of a broader movement to empower the youth, restore community pride, and drive sustainable development in Sunyani East.
