Hon. Wisdom Boamah Backs Teachers, Promises Support and End to Licensure Exams Under NDC

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya, Hon. Wisdom Boamah, has rallied support for teachers and the educational sector, assuring them of better working conditions and government backing under a National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. Speaking at the 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Abuakwa, the MCE urged teachers to have faith in the NDC’s vision for education in Ghana.

“The NDC values education and places teachers at the heart of national development. I encourage all teachers to trust in our commitment to improving their welfare and reshaping the education sector for the better,” Hon. Boamah stated.

He revealed that one of the key education reforms promised by the NDC is the cancellation of the teacher licensure examination, which has received widespread criticism from newly trained teachers across the country.

“We have heard your concerns loud and clear. The NDC has pledged to abolish the teacher licensure exams. It is a needless barrier to employment, and we believe qualified teachers should not be subjected to an extra layer of examination after training,” he announced, drawing applause from the audience.

In response to the growing infrastructure needs in schools, Hon. Boamah pledged that the Municipal Assembly would soon supply desks and chairs to basic schools facing furniture shortages. He noted that the lack of adequate furniture hinders effective teaching and learning, and must be urgently addressed.

“We cannot achieve quality education if our children sit on the bare floor. My office is working tirelessly to distribute furniture to the most affected schools to create a more dignified learning environment,” he assured.

As students prepare for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the MCE took the opportunity to motivate candidates to study hard and remain focused. He encouraged them to take their studies seriously and strive for academic excellence.

“You are the future of Atwima Nwabiagya and Ghana. Study diligently, avoid distractions, and make yourselves and your families proud. We believe in your potential,” he said.

The GNAT Conference brought together educators, government officials, and education stakeholders to discuss key issues affecting teaching and learning in the municipality. Topics ranged from teacher motivation and training to infrastructure and curriculum reforms.

Many participants commended Hon. Boamah for his practical support for education and his willingness to speak openly about teacher concerns. His assurance of policy changes under an NDC government was particularly well-received by GNAT members in attendance.

The conference ended with a renewed sense of unity among teachers, as well as optimism that with continued advocacy and leadership support, the challenges facing Ghana’s education sector can be addressed sustainably.
