Manso Agroyesum Chief Urges Mahama to Complete NPP-Initiated Roads, Slams Amansie South Assembly Staff for Absenteeism, and Demands MMDCE Appointment

The Chief of Manso Agroyesum, Nana Tabi Agyaben III, has issued a strong appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to ensure the completion of road construction projects initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. He specifically called for the completion of the Mem Junction to Manso Agroyesum road, stressing that abandoning these projects would hinder development and worsen the daily struggles of residents, particularly those who rely on Agroyesum’s healthcare facilities.

Speaking at a media engagement at his palace, Nana Tabi Agyaben III lamented the poor road conditions in the district, highlighting their negative impact on economic activities, education, and healthcare delivery. He emphasized that changes in government should not disrupt critical infrastructure projects.

“Our roads are in terrible condition, and stopping these projects will be a great disservice to the people of Amansie South. Governments must think beyond politics and complete ongoing projects for the benefit of the citizens,” he stated.

He further underscored that despite the district’s contributions to the national economy through mining and other resources, basic infrastructure remains underdeveloped, leaving residents and businesses struggling with poor road networks and inadequate services.

Amansie South District Assembly Staff Accused of Absenteeism

The Agroyesumhene did not limit his concerns to infrastructure alone but also criticized the work ethic of staff at the Amansie South District Assembly. He accused many employees of chronic absenteeism, negligence, and a lack of commitment to their duties, which he believes has significantly affected service delivery in the district.

During a recent visit to the district assembly, he was alarmed to find only three technocrats available to serve over 100 residents who had traveled long distances in search of assistance.

“This is unacceptable. The district assembly is supposed to serve the people, yet most of the staff do not report to work regularly. How can we expect development when the very institutions responsible for local governance are not functioning properly?” he questioned.

He urged the government to take decisive action against unprofessional behavior among public servants, emphasizing that efficiency in public service is crucial for the progress of the district.

Demands for Immediate MMDCE Appointment

In addition to his concerns about road projects and absenteeism at the assembly, Nana Tabi Agyaben III called on the government to expedite the appointment of a Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) for Amansie South. He argued that the prolonged vacancy in the MMDCE position has created a leadership vacuum, resulting in governance inefficiencies and stalled development initiatives.

“The absence of a substantive MMDCE is affecting decision-making and slowing down progress in the district. The government must act swiftly to appoint a capable leader to oversee the assembly’s operations and facilitate development projects,” he stressed.

He further noted that effective leadership at the district level is crucial for national development, and any delay in appointing key officials negatively affects governance and the well-being of ordinary citizens who rely on the assembly for essential services.

Call for Government Action

The concerns raised by Nana Tabi Agyaben III reflect the growing frustration among residents of Amansie South over stalled development and ineffective governance. He called on President Mahama, the Ministry of Local Government, and all relevant stakeholders to take urgent action to address these pressing issues.

“The people of Amansie South deserve better. We need our roads completed, we need dedicated assembly staff, and we need strong leadership at the district level. The government must listen to the concerns of the people and act accordingly,” he concluded.

As pressure mounts, residents and local leaders alike are keenly watching the government’s response to these demands. The completion of roads, improvements in public service efficiency, and the appointment of an MMDCE are seen as critical steps toward addressing the challenges facing the people of Amansie South.

This article highlights the growing dissatisfaction within the district and serves as a strong call for immediate action from the government.
