Tsukuba University and KNUST Delegation Visits Tepa Nursing College to Deepen Academic Collaboration

A delegation from Tsukuba University in Japan and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Nursing has visited the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College as part of preparations for a student and tutor exchange program between the institutions.

The visit aimed to assess the college’s facilities and strengthen collaboration between the three institutions, offering students and faculty the opportunity to gain international exposure and experience diverse healthcare systems.

Assessment of Facilities

Led by Dr. Albert Opoku, Principal of Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, the delegation, including three professors from Tsukuba University and three from KNUST, inspected key facilities such as the library, computer laboratory, and lecture halls to ensure the college is ready to receive international students.

Dr. Opoku highlighted the significance of the program, explaining that students and tutors from Tepa Nursing College will have the chance to study at Tsukuba University in Japan, while Japanese students will also travel to Ghana to experience the local healthcare training system and culture.

“This collaboration is a game-changer for our institution. It will allow students and faculty to broaden their knowledge, engage in international research, and enhance their professional skills,” he stated.

The Omanhene welcomed the delegation warmly, commending the leadership of Tepa Nursing College for fostering such an important international partnership.

“This program will greatly benefit our students and the entire community. I encourage Tsukuba University to consider establishing a branch here in Tepa to strengthen this collaboration further,” he stated.

He also assured the institutions of the Tepa Traditional Council’s full support, encouraging the Japanese delegation to consider Tepa as their second home and contribute to the development of education in the area.

Encouragement to Students

Dr. Opoku urged students of Tepa Nursing College to take their studies seriously, emphasizing that only the most hardworking and brilliant students will be selected for the exchange program.

“This is a lifetime opportunity for our students. We will select only the best performers to represent us in Japan, so I encourage everyone to work hard and grab this chance,” he advised.

A Boost for Nursing Education

The visit marks a significant step toward enhancing nursing education in Ghana through international collaboration. With the strong backing of Tsukuba University, KNUST, and the Tepa Traditional Council, the exchange program is expected to provide transformative learning experiences for students and tutors while strengthening ties between Ghana and Japan.
