Government Pledges to End Mining Concession-Related Violence -Hon Mireku Duker

In the wake of a tragic incident that resulted in the death of Rahman Mohammed, a 35-year-old resident, and injuries to three others, the government has vowed to prevent further loss of life related to mining concessions. The confrontation occurred between residents of Manso Tontokrom and private security guards of Asanko Mining Company.

Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. George Mireku Duker, and MP for Takwa Nsuaem, emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving such disputes and implementing a community mining scheme. This scheme aims to provide safer and more equitable mining practices.

Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, MP for Manso Adubia and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, has also committed to establishing a community mining scheme for Manso Tontokrom. He expressed his dedication to fostering a peaceful resolution and ensuring local residents benefit from mining activities.

Hon. Kwabena Animonyam, unit committee chairman for Manso Tontokrom, has called for an expedited launch of the proposed community mining scheme. He stressed the urgent need for a structured and official mining plan to address community concerns and prevent future conflicts.

The government’s commitment to resolving mining disputes and implementing community mining schemes aims to create sustainable opportunities and maintain harmony within the affected constituencies.
