Sale of SSNIT Hotels: Akufo-Addo has invited Organised labour for a meeting on June 25 – Ablakwa discloses

President Akufo-Addo

Following the ‘Hands Off our Hotel demo, President Akufo-Addo has invited Organised Labour for a meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The meeting is expected to discuss the next steps in addressing the matter on the sale of the SSNIT hotels.

North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed this in an interview on KeyPoints on TV3, Saturday, June 22.

“Organised Labour has informed me that the president has invited them to a meeting on the 25 of this month which is Tuesday,” he disclosed.

Mr. Ablakwa indicated that he hopes the meeting will not be another ‘theatrics’ by the President to convince Organised Labour to back down against the sale of the SSNIT hotels.

“…and we hope that it will not be another attempt to convince Organised Labour because I’m so disappointed in this President that he has taken so long to intervene in this scandalous matter and just stop this rot,” he added.

The President’s invitation comes on the back of concerns raised by many, including Organised Labour, questioning the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) decision to sell off 60 per cent of its stake in Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Beach Hotel, Ridge Royal Hotel, and Busua Beach Hotel to Agric Minister, Bryan Acheampong.

The matter came to limelight following a revelation by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa led a “Hands off our Hotels” demo where a petition was presented to the President to halt the sale of the hotels.

Ablakwa alleged that Rock City Hotels which belongs to Bryan Acheampong, which the hotels are being sold to, are currently incurring losses and unfit to run the other hotels he intends to buy.

He said documents he had intercepted at the Ghana Revenue Authority show that Rock City did not file its tax returns for the year, 2022.

Bryan Acheampong has refuted the claim and dared Ablakwa to come out with the supposed documents intercepted at the GRA.
