Monetization of social media content: How a hobby turned into a thriving business By Publishing Desk

Digital and tech content creator, Emmanuel Obuobi Fianko, also known as Delppy, has shared his passion, determination, and commitment in becoming a digital and tech content creator.

The creative said he ventured into the field for money.

‘’I was looking for ways to make money online. People normally say, I started creating content because I just want to make it a hobby. But generally, what I was going in for was to make money,’’ he explained.

‘’And then an article I read, it said that you can make videos online and then earn from it. And the suggestion was to make video through YouTube. So, you can make videos, post it on YouTube, and then you get some money,’’ he added.

He started with a passion by giving tutorials on latest gadgets and a desire to share his knowledge. He began posting regular reviews and tutorials on his social media platforms. What started as part time quickly evolved into a full-time career.

‘’And because I was schooling then I didn’t consider the money as a factor then. Let me just make it a hobby because, it is better than saying that I’m waiting till when I think I can make the money before I start, it may be too late for me. Then I started making the videos,’’ he said in an interview on The Afternoon Show on TV3, April 17, 2024.

According to him, social media influencers have built a substantial following on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, X, or TikTok. They have the ability to sway the opinions and behaviors of their followers, making them valuable to brands looking to reach their target audience.

‘’Growing up with the content creation, you realize that there are dynamics that come in. There are new social media platforms that popped up like TikTok, Instagram reels and stuff. I personally gravitated towards providing value. Even though I was looking for money. I was looking at helping people in return. The first video I ever made was a video on how you can close your laptop late and still have it working in the background,’’ he revealed.

According to him, one popular way influencers monetize their social media presence is through influencer marketing. Brands partner with influencers to promote their products or services to their followers. This can include sponsored posts, where influencers feature the brand’s products and provide an honest review or endorsement.

‘’I’m creating value, it is like they are coming to learn. They want to know what’s the next tip this guy will share with us. And this is because this person has been able to build an organic fan base who love them for what they are doing. Now with that, you can end up getting brand sponsorships. So, before a brand starts working with you, they need to know all these analytics,’’ he added.

“However, the key to success lies in their genuine interest in technology and commitment to providing value to their followers. This approach has not only earned them a loyal fan base but also a steady stream of income through various monetization strategies, including sponsored content, affiliate marketing, and direct sales,” Delppy advised.
