GoldBOD Proposes Hospital, Water and Sanitation, Education Projects for Amansie West

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBOD) has expanded its community development outlook with the presentation of three major project proposals to the Amansie West District Assembly, aimed at transforming social infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents in the mining-driven district. This formed part of a high-level engagement between GoldBOD executives and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Prince M. Manu, during a courtesy visit to the Assembly.

The meeting highlighted GoldBOD’s broader commitment to ensuring that mining communities directly benefit from national mineral resources and corporate social responsibility interventions. The organisation outlined three carefully considered development options—each designed to tackle critical challenges in the district: a modern hospital facility, a comprehensive water and sanitation improvement project, and a fully equipped educational facility to support academic advancement.

If the hospital project is selected, Amansie West will benefit from a state-of-the-art healthcare centre capable of delivering essential medical services, including emergency care, maternal and child health services, diagnostic services, and specialised treatment. The district, which often faces mobility challenges and long distances to major referral facilities, stands to gain significantly from improved access to quality healthcare.

The second project option—a water and sanitation initiative—targets communities that struggle with inadequate clean drinking water and limited sanitation facilities. GoldBOD’s proposal includes modern boreholes, extended water distribution systems, and improved sanitation infrastructure such as hygienic public toilets and waste management systems. This intervention is aimed at reducing waterborne diseases and promoting better health outcomes across the district.

The third proposal focuses on education, with plans to construct a contemporary school complex equipped with ICT labs, well-ventilated classrooms, teaching aids, and staff accommodations. The facility is expected to support both academic performance and teacher retention, addressing educational infrastructure deficits that have long affected learning outcomes in Amansie West.

Hon. Prince M. Manu commended GoldBOD for its thoughtful and impactful proposals, describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening development partnerships. He assured the executives that the Assembly would conduct a rigorous needs assessment to determine which of the three projects aligns most closely with the district’s pressing priorities. According to the DCE, the selected project will not only reflect community needs but also promise long-term benefits for residents.

Residents and traditional leaders within the district have also expressed gratitude to GoldBOD for extending such a valuable initiative to the area. Many praised the organisation for demonstrating genuine commitment to corporate social responsibility, noting that mining communities often face complex developmental gaps that require collaborative solutions.

GoldBOD executives reaffirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable development across mining districts nationwide. They emphasised that the proposed projects represent an opportunity to translate mineral wealth into social progress, improving living standards while reinforcing responsible mining practices.

The visit marks the beginning of an important decision-making process for the district, with officials expected to assess the proposals and select a project that promises the greatest impact. Once approved, the chosen project will serve as a catalyst for enhanced healthcare, education, or sanitation—ushering in a new phase of development for the people of Amansie West.
