GoldBOD Partners Amansie West District in Landmark Community Development Initiative

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBOD) has strengthened its commitment to improving the lives of residents in mining communities with a strategic engagement at the Amansie West District Assembly, where the institution presented a set of transformative development project options for the district’s consideration. The courtesy visit, led by senior executives of GoldBOD, was hosted by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Prince M. Manu, marking a significant moment in the district’s pursuit of sustainable social infrastructure.
GoldBOD’s proposal includes three major development projects designed to address critical needs in health, water and sanitation, and education—sectors that remain central to the district’s overall development agenda. The options presented for selection by the Amansie West District Assembly are a state-of-the-art hospital project, a comprehensive water and sanitation initiative, and a modern educational facility aimed at enhancing learning outcomes within the district.
The proposed hospital project signals a potential breakthrough in healthcare delivery for Amansie West, which currently faces challenges in accessing advanced medical services. The facility—if approved—will serve as a major health hub, offering maternal healthcare, emergency response systems, laboratory services, outpatient care, and specialised units to reduce pressure on distant referral hospitals.
The second option, centred on water and sanitation, is designed to tackle long-standing issues of inadequate clean water supply and poor sanitation infrastructure across multiple communities. GoldBOD outlined plans for mechanised boreholes, expanded water distribution systems, improved sanitation blocks, and community-based hygiene promotion targeted at reducing waterborne diseases and improving environmental health.
The third option, focused on education, proposes the establishment of a modern school complex equipped with ICT laboratories, well-furnished classrooms, staff offices, and learning support facilities. The project aims to uplift educational standards, address infrastructure gaps, and encourage improved academic performance among students in the district.
Hon. Prince M. Manu expressed his deep appreciation to GoldBOD for what he described as a landmark gesture of corporate social responsibility. He emphasised that the Assembly would thoroughly assess the district’s most urgent development needs before selecting the most suitable project. The DCE noted that the initiative reflects a productive partnership built on mutual commitment to advancing community development.
Community members and local leaders have described the initiative as timely, given the socio-economic pressures associated with mining activities in the area. Many residents commended GoldBOD for demonstrating responsibility beyond regulatory functions and investing directly in sustainable development interventions.
GoldBOD executives reiterated their pledge to ensuring that mining-affected districts benefit significantly from Ghana’s mineral wealth. They explained that the initiative forms part of GoldBOD’s nationwide strategy to support communities through targeted, high-impact development projects that align with local priorities.
The visit has set in motion a decision-making process within the district, as the Assembly is expected to evaluate each project option and announce its preferred choice in the coming weeks. Whichever project is selected, the initiative is poised to deliver lasting social benefits and accelerate the development trajectory of the Amansie West District.
