Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) Wins National Research Excellence Award

The Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) in the Bono Region, Mr. Albert Opoku, has been honoured at the Ministry of Health’s 5th Nursing and Midwifery Excellence and Hall of Fame Awards 2025, held at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.

Mr. Opoku, a distinguished academic and researcher, was adjudged winner of the prestigious “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award.” This recognition highlights his remarkable contribution to research, innovation, and the advancement of nursing and midwifery training in Ghana.

Beyond his administrative role, Mr. Opoku is known for his extensive scholarly work. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, including the article titled “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education” published in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. His research on public health education has been widely acknowledged for addressing pressing healthcare challenges such as vaccine misinformation and the need for effective health communication strategies.

In an interview after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku stressed the vital role of research in education and healthcare delivery. He explained that research generates knowledge essential for training students, particularly in the health sector, while also enhancing the quality of patient care. He urged both students and professionals to embrace research as a tool for growth, innovation, and evidence-based practice.

The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, organised annually by the Ministry of Health, celebrate outstanding professionals whose dedication and leadership continue to transform the health sector. The 2025 edition attracted key stakeholders from across Ghana, and Mr. Opoku’s recognition has been described as a testament to his commitment to academic excellence and professional development.

His achievement has been warmly received by staff, students, and the wider community of Sampa Nursing Training College, who believe the award will further inspire the institution to continue setting high standards in healthcare training.
