Zongo Vote Campaigners Reaffirm Support for Dr. Bawumia, Urge NPP Leadership to Address Voter Apathy Ahead of 2028 Election

In a press conference held today by the Zango Vote Campaigners in Kumasi, members expressed their unwavering support, confidence, and loyalty to Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just-ended 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. The event was organized to publicly reaffirm their commitment to Dr. Bawumia and to highlight key concerns regarding the party’s performance in the recent elections.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Alhaji Abdul Mumin Castro, the Secretary of Zango Vote Campaigners, commended Dr. Bawumia for his statesmanlike conduct following the election results. Dr. Bawumia, who accepted defeat graciously by acknowledging Mr. John Mahama as the elected president, was lauded for his patriotism, humility, and maturity. Castro emphasized that this display of dignity and respect for the democratic process was a model of good leadership, worthy of emulation in Ghana’s political landscape.

While celebrating Dr. Bawumia’s composure, the campaigners expressed disappointment in the party’s performance, pointing out that the NDC did not outperform the NPP in the election results. Rather, it was a sense of disillusionment within their own party that led to the loss. Despite their disappointment, the group refrained from engaging in any blame games but instead called for an urgent review of the situation.

“We urge the top leadership of the NPP to conduct a thorough stocktaking exercise to identify and address the root causes of the massive voter apathy, especially in our strongholds,” said Castro. He further called for appropriate recommendations to tackle this critical issue to ensure a better showing in future elections.

The group made it clear that their commitment to Dr. Bawumia remained strong, and they continue to believe in his vision and policies. In a show of faith, the Zango Vote Campaigners reiterated their trust in Allah, expressing optimism that all things work together for the good of those who believe and remain patient, even in the face of adversity.

The campaigners also took the opportunity to express their profound gratitude to key individuals who played vital roles in the campaign efforts. Special thanks were extended to Hajia Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, and her team for their dedication and hard work. The group expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia would once again lead the NPP in the 2028 elections, with the hope that he would become Ghana’s first Muslim president.

Furthermore, the campaigners acknowledged the efforts of Imam Alhassan Salifu, the group’s chairman, for his financial contributions in supporting the campaign activities across the Zango communities in the Ashanti Region. The group also recognized the tireless efforts and cooperation of all its executives and members, without whom their work would not have been possible.

In closing, the Zango Vote Campaigners reaffirmed their unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia, praying for Allah’s continued guidance, protection, and blessings upon him. They expressed their hope that Dr. Bawumia would be preserved for the NPP’s future and remain a beacon of leadership in Ghana’s political landscape.

“It is still possible! Insha Allah,” Castro concluded, with the campaigners standing united in their conviction for the future.
