Youth Climate Action Fund Exhibition Showcases Bold Green Innovations in Kumasi
Young innovators in Kumasi have demonstrated groundbreaking solutions to climate change at the Phase 2 Exhibition of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), held on August 27, 2025, at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Conference Hall.

The event brought together youth groups, students, and climate-focused organisations to showcase projects that highlight the potential of innovation in addressing environmental challenges, promoting sustainable jobs, and boosting Kumasi’s global reputation as a forward-looking city.

Among the key projects exhibited were smart solar-powered dustbins by 3-in-1 Tech Waste Solutions to improve waste management, eco-friendly soaps made from plantain peels by Sunawash, and green charcoal developed from coconut husks by GAPS KNUST as a cleaner alternative to traditional charcoal. Other innovations included climate education initiatives by Green Awareness International, smoke detectors designed by Martyrs of Uganda School, climate-resilient agricultural research by Echo Youth Alliance, and sustainable practices such as composting, tree planting, waste segregation, and biogas production by the Crusaders.

Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, who opened the exhibition, commended the participants for their creativity and dedication. He assured them of the Assembly’s continuous support and pledged to maintain an open-door policy for collaboration and financial assistance.

“These projects are evidence that our youth are not only ready but capable of leading the fight against climate change. The KMA will stand with them to ensure their innovations grow into viable enterprises that can protect the environment while creating jobs,” the Mayor said.

The Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), aims to empower young people to take direct action against climate change. This year’s theme, “Youth Climate Action!! Stewards of the Environment”, underscores the role of the younger generation in shaping sustainable futures.

Organisers of the exhibition said they were optimistic that the projects would attract partnerships and investments to scale up their impact. They also praised the Mayor and the KMA for their encouragement and commitment to integrating youth-led ideas into Kumasi’s climate agenda.

The exhibition reinforced Kumasi’s commitment to building a climate-resilient and environmentally friendly city, with youth innovation positioned at the centre of the city’s sustainability drive.
