Yaa Asantewaa SHS Seeks Royal Blessing from Queen Mother of Ejisu Ahead of 65th Anniversary Celebration

The management and students of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School (SHS) recently paid a courtesy visit to Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the revered Queen of the Ejisu traditional area, to seek her royal blessing for their upcoming 65th anniversary celebration. The visit, which took place in the spirit of respect and tradition, was led by the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Felicia Asamoah Danquah.

During the visit, Mrs. Asamoah Danquah informed Nana Yaa Asantewaa about the school’s milestone anniversary event, scheduled for April 12, 2025. She emphasized that the visit was an essential part of the school’s preparations for the celebration and a testament to their commitment to honoring the legendary queen mother while celebrating Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

In her address, Mrs. Asamoah Danquah highlighted several of the school’s achievements, noting its growth and success over the years. She proudly shared that, when the school was first established, it had only four houses; today, it boasts ten houses. Additionally, Yaa Asantewaa SHS has produced numerous successful alumni, including distinguished lawyers, doctors, business leaders, and other prominent individuals.

The headmistress also spoke about the school’s active participation in regional competitions, emphasizing its recent achievements in various contests. She proudly noted that the school is the defending champion of the Renewable Energy Challenge and has consistently excelled in the STEM Innovation Program, organized for schools in the region. She further added that, last year, the school won their zone and placed second in the Super Zonal competition, a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and staff.

Despite these successes, Mrs. Asamoah Danquah acknowledged several challenges that Yaa Asantewaa SHS is currently facing. She highlighted the school’s need for a functional bus to transport students for extracurricular activities, as they are currently forced to hire buses from external sources for such purposes. Another major concern raised was the incomplete perimeter wall, which has led to encroachment by residents living near the school. Mrs. Asamoah Danquah called for support from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the government, or the school’s alumni to help complete the fence wall, which would prevent further encroachments and ensure the safety and security of the school. She also mentioned the need for renovations in the school’s science laboratory and requested additional teaching and learning materials, particularly in light of the GNPC sponsored projects they had received.

In her response, Nana Yaa Asantewaa commended the management of Yaa Asantewaa SHS for acknowledging the importance of traditional leaders and engaging with them in matters concerning the school’s development. She urged the students to remain focused on their education and take it seriously, emphasizing that education is key to their future success. The queen also stressed the importance of good behavior, advising students to be role models for their peers.

Furthermore, Nana Yaa Asantewaa advised parents and guardians to show love and care for their children, particularly their daughters. She encouraged parents to engage in open conversations with their children so that the young girls could feel comfortable sharing their challenges and concerns. She also underscored the importance of teaching girls valuable life skills, including how to prepare food, to help them grow into responsible wives in the future.

This royal visit marked a significant moment of respect, connection, and support for the school, with both the management and students receiving words of wisdom and encouragement from Nana Yaa Asantewaa. The school’s commitment to cultural heritage and ongoing development was celebrated, while its challenges were also acknowledged, with hopes for continued progress and support from the community and beyond.
