We will prosecute officials who help electricians with illegal meters – ECG

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a stern warning to its officials who inline with illegal meters and illegal connections to electricians which they disclosed that measures are putting in place to prosecute those ECG officials who help people to acquire illegal meters and illegal connections.

This comes after court proceedings, which one electrician were found guilty of installing illegal meters after interrogations were made which the company got to know that it was in connection with the some ECG officials. He has been fine with Gh¢ 5,400.00 else he will be in jail.

Head of Investigation and Prosecution of the ECG, Mr Paul Abariga said this in an interview said that, some ECG officials have gotten the power to issue meters to electricians which is contrary to their rules and regulations. “You are working with an institution who pay you every month as your salary and yet you involve yourselves in connection of illegal meters, hence measures are put in place to fish them out so that they will be prosecuted”, he noted.
