“We Will Not Tolerate Election Chaos” – Concerned Citizens of Sekyere Afram Plains Warn Politician

The Concerned Citizens of Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region have issued a strong warning to political parties and their supporters ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections. Led by their chairman, Mr. Boakye Yiadom, the group has voiced serious concerns over incidents of violence and intimidation during the recent Electoral Commission’s registration exercise, vowing to protect their community from any further disruptions.

During a press briefing, Mr. Yiadom recounted troubling events that occurred during the registration process, where certain political parties allegedly hired groups of “machomen” to create chaos and intimidate community members. He cited a particularly disturbing incident in which these individuals reportedly used pepper spray near a school, causing several students to experience severe discomfort. Some of the affected children had to be hospitalized, sparking widespread outrage and concerns for community safety as the election approaches.

In response, Mr. Yiadom delivered a clear warning to all political leaders and their supporters, emphasizing that the community would no longer tolerate such disruptive acts. “This time, we will not sit back and allow anyone to bring chaos to our community. Sekyere Afram Plains is prepared to protect its peace, and we will not allow any acts of violence to go unchecked,” he stated firmly. He cautioned that any attempts to incite disorder on election day would be met with a strong response from community members who are committed to ensuring a peaceful environment.

Mr. Yiadom also urged political parties to prioritize accountability by instructing their followers to refrain from any form of aggression or intimidation on election day. He underscored that a secure and stable voting environment is essential for upholding democratic values and respecting the rights of every citizen. “Our community deserves a peaceful election, free from fear and coercion. We call on all party leaders to take responsibility and ensure their followers abide by the law,” he added.

The Concerned Citizens of Sekyere Afram Plains are resolute in their commitment to defending their community’s peace and supporting a fair election process. With the December 7 elections drawing near, they have made it clear that they are ready to take necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of the chaos witnessed during the registration period. Their call reflects the community’s strong stance on safeguarding peace and ensuring that the elections are conducted without fear or disruption.

As election day approaches, residents of Sekyere Afram Plains are hopeful that political parties will heed the calls for peace, ensuring a smooth and orderly democratic process during this critical period in Ghana’s electoral history.
