The aggrieved President of the Amansie West Small Scale Miners Association who is also the PRO for the Association of Assembly members in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Daniel Kwaku Mensah popularly known as DKM has angrily punched his own party saying they cannot win the 2024 general election ahead of them with their current dealings against small scale miners.
DKM who doubles as the assembly member for Manso Mmoseaso in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti hinted that, some elements within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have nicodemusly sent some military men in the various small scale miners sites doing what he described as illegalities.
Illegalities according the Small Scale Miners Chairman because, the ministers, Defence and Interior, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul and Hon. Ambrose Derry respectively including the sector minister, Hon. Abu Jinapor at a meeting with their Association stated categorically without hesitating and assured them that, every taskforce have been withdrawn and their operations halted for now till further notice.
But, the angry party Son and Chairman of GNASSM in the Amansie West has alleged that, soldiers are still at their legal sites bullying their members without any notice from the various ministries as agreed.
He mentioned one man in the NPP called Mr. Agyekum for being the pivot for the unknown military men allegedly referred to as, Operation Halt which to him, is unknown in the system and illegal adding that they are carrying out their unlawful activities against Small Scale Miners under the guise of the said, Agyekum.
“We did not agreed on this shadow taskforce and it was not part of the pragmatic measures met at the meeting.
So, who are they? and who is indulging them harrasing our members at their legally acquired sites?”, furious DKM questioned the government in an exclusive interview with Filasco DeGeneral on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
He’s therefore calling on both ministers, Defence and the Interior to as a matter of urgency withdraw all the security men else, small scale miners will send the government into opposition.
“Master, I receive not less than 100 calls a day from my members lamenting and wanting to know who really those taskforce are but, as a chairman, I’m also ignorant about the operations of the taskforce and who ordered them”, he stressed.
He also pointed fingers at some party executives at the various mining areas especially MMDCEs for not helping the fight against the menace because of fear of loosing their positions and allowed some few people tarnishing the government’s name through their bad deeds at mining sites.
