Water Crisis Hits Brofoyedru: Residents Call for Urgent Action as 7-Month Water Shortage Deepens

Residents of Brofoyedru, a community in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region, are urgently pleading for intervention as a severe water crisis continues to ravage the area. For the past seven months, the residents have been without a reliable water source, which they blame on the disruption of their water supply pipelines during road construction by contractor Kofi Job.

The situation has become increasingly unbearable, with many residents now forced to spend between GHS 150 and GHS 300 each month to purchase water—an unaffordable burden on households already struggling financially. The community, which once relied on a steady pipeline for water, has seen its daily lives severely impacted by the shortage, affecting hygiene, health, and basic living conditions.

In interviews with local media, frustrated residents described how the lack of water has become a daily challenge, impacting everything from household chores to personal well-being. “For seven months now, we have been deprived of water, and it’s becoming impossible to live like this,” one resident said. “We are calling on the authorities to fix the water supply and ensure that we have access to this basic necessity.”

The residents have pointed to the road construction project, overseen by contractor Kofi Job, as the main cause of the water shortage. The construction work allegedly resulted in the cutting off of the community’s water pipelines, leaving the population in a state of crisis. While infrastructure development is essential, residents argue that it should not come at the cost of basic services like water, which is crucial for their health and livelihoods.

The community has now turned to local authorities for support, urging them to resolve the issue before it worsens further. “We cannot continue to live like this,” another resident emphasized. “We need water to survive, and we need it now.”

Hon. Michael Kwabena Boateng, the Assembly Member for Brofoyedru, has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. He called for immediate action from the contractor and other relevant authorities to address the water shortage. “This is a pressing issue that needs urgent attention,” said Hon. Boateng. “I urge Kofi Job and all the concerned authorities to act swiftly to provide a sustainable solution. The health and well-being of our people must come first.”

As the community continues to wait for a resolution, the growing frustration over the water crisis in Brofoyedru is evident. The residents hope their calls for help will be heard and that immediate measures will be taken to restore their access to clean and reliable water.
