UTV’s Hon. Stephen Sekyere and Adom TV’s Isaac K. Nomenyo Honored with National Heroes Award for Championing Change Through Leadership and Journalism

In a grand celebration of patriotism and public impact, Hon. Stephen Sekyere and Isaac K. Nomenyo have been awarded the 2025 National Heroes Award for their outstanding contributions to grassroots leadership and development-focused journalism.

The two celebrated figures—Hon. Sekyere, Assembly Member for Oseikrom and UTV Obuasi correspondent, and Nomenyo, Adom TV’s trusted journalist in the Obuasi area—were honored at an impressive ceremony hosted by the Ghana Heroes Foundation. The event recognized individuals whose commitment to service has left a lasting mark on society.

Hon. Stephen Sekyere was hailed for his rare ability to seamlessly merge his political role with active journalism. As a community leader, he has initiated and overseen key projects in Oseikrom including school renovations, sanitation improvements, and infrastructure advocacy. As a journalist, he uses his platform at UTV to bring local issues to national attention.

“Hon. Sekyere exemplifies the kind of leadership our communities need—practical, vocal, and responsive,” organizers noted. “He is not just reporting problems; he is solving them.”

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Sekyere credited his constituents for the inspiration and support that drives his service, dedicating the award to the people of Oseikrom and the entire Obuasi enclave.

Adom TV’s Isaac K. Nomenyo has become a household name in Obuasi and its environs for his bold reporting and relentless advocacy for neglected communities. His storytelling—marked by empathy, depth, and accuracy—has forced positive responses from both local and national authorities.

From highlighting the plight of schools without desks to exposing critical sanitation concerns in mining areas, Nomenyo’s work has helped bring development to underserved places.

“This award strengthens my resolve to continue using journalism as a tool for justice,” Nomenyo said. “Our stories are not just headlines; they are lifelines for people in need.”

A Moment of Pride for Obuasi
The dual honor for Sekyere and Nomenyo has been widely celebrated by residents of Obuasi and members of the press corps. Many have described the award as a fitting tribute to two individuals who represent integrity, truth, and results.

The Ghana Heroes Foundation emphasized that such recognition serves as a reminder that true heroes are often those who work quietly behind the scenes, fixing roads, solving community challenges, and holding power to account. “We celebrate these men not just for what they have done—but for what they continue to stand for: truth, service, and community,” the Foundation’s representative added.

The 2025 National Heroes Award has once again highlighted the critical roles that dedicated local leaders and journalists play in national development, especially at a time when trust in institutions must be rebuilt through action and accountability.
