The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has explained that the recent power outage experienced in parts of the Ashanti Region was caused by upstream technical challenges, while assuring customers of swift restoration efforts and continued improvements in power reliability.

According to ECG, the disturbance did not originate from its immediate distribution network but from upstream system challenges, which affected power supply to several areas within the region. The company said it promptly engaged relevant stakeholders within the power sector to restore electricity supply in the shortest possible time.

Speaking during an off-studio radio interview on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, the Head of Public Relations for ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Mr. Collins Manu, apologised to affected customers and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to reliable power delivery.

“The outage in Ashanti was due to upstream technical challenges, and ECG liaised with stakeholders to ensure swift restoration of power. We sincerely regret the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience,” Mr. Manu stated.

He further explained that ECG continues to invest heavily in critical power infrastructure to strengthen the electricity distribution network and reduce the impact of system disturbances. These investments, he noted, span Bulk Supply Points, high-voltage transmission lines, primary substations, power transformers, distribution transformers, low-voltage networks and customer metering systems.

“Our commitment is simple: to provide safe, reliable and quality electricity to support national development and meet the growing energy needs of the country,” Mr. Manu said, adding that this commitment remains the core focus of ECG’s Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena.

Mr. Manu emphasised that beyond infrastructure expansion, ECG prioritises routine maintenance and system upgrades to improve network resilience and enhance service delivery. He assured customers that the company continues to work closely with sector stakeholders to improve response time and minimise power disruptions.

He reiterated ECG’s assurance that sustained investment in infrastructure remains key to ensuring dependable electricity supply, supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life for customers across the Ashanti Region and the country as a whole.
