Unleashing Creativity: TVET Service Partners KNUST and KsTU for Fashion Fantasy Show

The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has made history with the launch of its maiden Fashion Fantasy Show and Beauty Pageant at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The two-day programme, organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Art at KNUST and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), brought together students from TVET institutions across the Ashanti Region under the theme “Unleashing Potentials and Creativity.”

The initiative provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents in fashion, design, and art, while challenging the perception that vocational education is a second choice. Instead, it projected TVET as a vital driver of innovation, entrepreneurship, and national development.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kwabena Asubonteng of KNUST’s Department of Fashion described TVET as the cornerstone of Ghana’s future. He explained that while the conventional academic route has its role, the nation’s sustainable development and job creation depend heavily on technical and vocational education. According to him, Ghana’s transformation rests on nurturing creativity and equipping young people with practical skills.

Dr. Asubonteng urged parents to support their wards, especially Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, in choosing TVET pathways after junior high school. He stressed that many young people possess natural gifts that must be cultivated through training, discipline, and mentorship. “When talent is left to waste, it dies. But when it is nurtured, it grows into excellence and changes destinies,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Director of TVET Service, Engineer Richard Addo Gyamfi, commended the participants for their creativity and confidence, emphasizing that the event was more than a competition—it was a practical step in preparing learners for the world of work. He announced that the top three winning schools would each receive industrial and electric sewing machines to support entrepreneurship and skill development.

Engineer Addo Gyamfi explained that the TVET Service would monitor the use of the machines to ensure they enhance skills development and open doors to the job market. He also expressed gratitude to KNUST and KsTU for their strong collaboration and appealed to corporate organisations to partner with TVET institutions in resourcing the sector. He further called on the media to dedicate space and airtime to promote TVET, stressing that publicity is critical to changing public perceptions and encouraging more students to embrace vocational and technical education.

The show, which attracted a large audience of students, parents, and education stakeholders, was widely hailed as a milestone event. Many participants agreed that it showcased the hidden talents of young people while reaffirming that TVET is not just education, but a pathway to dignity, employment, and national growth.
