TWO ARRESTED: ONE JAILED FOR 12 MONTHS, ANOTHER ON THE THE RUN FOR WATER METER THEFT AND SELF-RECONNECTION IN ASHANTI REGION

In a significant crackdown on water-related offenses, the Mampong Magistrate Court has sentenced Sumaila Abdul Rahman to 12 months of imprisonment for his involvement in water meter theft. This ruling comes amid a broader effort to combat illegal water related issues in the region.

On Friday, October 11, 2024, Sumaila Abdul Rahman, a 23-year-old individual of mixed Ghanaian and Nigerian descent residing in Mampong, was arrested for the theft of water meters. Following his arrest, he was promptly arraigned before the Mampong Magistrate Court on Monday, October 14, 2024, where Chief Inspector Richard Obeng Asare represented the prosecution. The court found him guilty, and he was sentenced to 12 months in prison on the same day.

In a related incident, Priscilla Amofa is currently in custody at the Kumasi Central Police station for her involvement in the self-reconnection of water services without paying outstanding bills. Her accomplice, Nana Adu, is currently at large after being accused of similar self-reconnection activities. These incidents have raised concerns about the integrity of water supply systems in the area.
