Two arrested after police retrieves child’s dead body from septic tank

Police at Nansana are holding two suspects in connection to the killing of a nine-year-old boy whose decomposing body was found buried in a septic tank.

The deceased, Bukenya Imran, disappeared on July 09, 2022 from home, while his pregnant mother was in labour and hospitalised at Mulago Hospital. The mother (names withheld) reported his disappearance upon return from hospital with a baby.

Police discovered the dead body of the missing child after searching for weeks. Locals in Nansana tipped off police on Tuesday after they realised a decomposing body dumped in a septic tank at the residence of one Ssemaganyi Eria in Wakiso District.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, said police received information that an unidentified body was seen floating in the septic tank at Eria’s house.

He further explained that Police responded with Fire Prevention and Rescue Services who retrieved the body alongside a 20-litre jerrican with suspected Kerosene. Police suspects that the kerosene could have been poured into the septic tank to disguise the smell of the decomposing body. The body of the deceased child was later identified by the mother.

Owoyesigyire added that Eria and another suspect identified as Ssalongo Bweseri have been arrested and detained at Nansana main station to help in investigations.

The body was later conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem as investigations continue.
