The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, on Saturday led a major sanitation exercise at Aboabo No. 1 and No. 2 in Kumasi as part of the February Clean-Up campaign aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and public health across the region.

The exercise brought together Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members and residents, who turned out in their numbers to demonstrate a shared commitment to improving sanitation within their communities. The clean-up activities commenced from the Aboabo Post Office and extended to the Aboabo drain, popularly known as the Aboabo Palele, a key drainage channel within the area.

Participants desilted choked gutters, cleared refuse from principal streets and removed waste deposited along sections of the drain to enhance the free flow of water and prevent flooding. The exercise also sought to reduce health risks associated with poor sanitation, particularly in densely populated communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, also actively participated in the exercise. His hands-on involvement and engagement with residents highlighted the Assembly’s firm commitment to sanitation and community development. Working alongside local leaders and residents, the MCE reinforced the importance of collective action in sustaining environmental cleanliness across the municipality.

Addressing participants, the Regional Minister commended residents for their enthusiasm and unity, emphasizing that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility that requires consistent community participation. He noted that sustained sanitation efforts are critical to preventing disease outbreaks and improving overall living standards.

Residents described the exercise as successful and refreshing, citing the strong sense of unity and cooperation displayed throughout the activity. Many expressed appreciation for the presence and direct involvement of both the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive, describing their participation as a strong motivation for continued community engagement.

The February Clean-Up Exercise forms part of broader efforts within the Ashanti Region to strengthen sanitation consciousness and promote communal labour as a tool for development. Authorities reiterated that sustained collaboration between government officials and residents remains essential in building cleaner, safer and healthier communities.

With renewed determination and collective commitment, Aboabo No. 1 and No. 2 continue to set a positive example in community-driven sanitation efforts within the Ashanti Region.
