Some three students from Opoku Ware SHS are currently in the grips of the Ghana Police Service for robbing a driver of his car in Kumasi.
On Friday, August 12, 2022, at about 11 p.m., the suspects entered a taxi from Santasi, the school’s location, and told the driver they were going to their house near the Golden Tulip hotel.
When they came close to Vienna City, one of the teenagers allegedly drew a knife on the driver.
He questioned them why they were doing this as students, and they said it was because they were in need of a car.
The driver refused to give in, so they wrestled in the car, causing the driver to lose control of the wheel and crash into the sand.
The driver’s screams drew bystanders to the site, who assumed it was a regular collision.
The driver was eager to tell the onlookers that this was not a regular accident and informed them that the men had picked him up and wanted to rob him.
Two of them were apprehended on the spot, but one escaped and was apprehended later.
The three, two of whom are 17 years old and one of whom is 19 years old, are in police custody and will be charged in court today, August 16, 2022.
All three are final-year Opoku Ware School students who began as boarding students but moved to day in their final year.
