The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has extended a helping hand to the people of Asenemaso in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region by donating a mechanized borehole fitted with a poly tank water storage system to Asenemaso M/A Primary and Junior High School. The facility, handed over at a colourful ceremony on the school grounds, is expected to guarantee a consistent supply of clean water for pupils and teachers, thereby enhancing teaching and learning.

In an address at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East, Hon. Joseph Amankwah, expressed deep appreciation to the Church for what he described as a timely and life-changing gesture. He explained that the lack of reliable access to water had long disrupted academic activities, as pupils were often forced to abandon lessons in search of drinking water. He was confident that the new facility would significantly ease that burden, improve school attendance, and create a more conducive environment for academic excellence. Hon. Amankwah also appealed to the Church to extend similar support to other schools and communities across the municipality while encouraging the school authorities and pupils to adopt a strong culture of maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the project.

Representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Richard Osei, a local leader who supervised the project, noted that the donation formed part of the Church’s commitment to humanitarian work. He stressed that although government plays a leading role in national development, the active involvement of churches and civil society groups is vital in building stronger communities. According to him, true religion goes beyond weekly worship and must be measured by the positive impact it makes on people’s lives. He encouraged other faith-based organizations in Ghana to dedicate more resources to social development projects rather than focusing solely on internal church activities.

On behalf of the school, the Headmistress, Mrs. Gladys Opoku, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Church for addressing what she described as one of the school’s most pressing challenges. She revealed that for years, inadequate access to water had posed serious setbacks, forcing pupils to leave classrooms during lessons to fetch water. This, she explained, affected concentration, health, and overall academic performance. She assured the Church that the facility would be well maintained to serve both current and future generations of pupils.

The impact of the donation extends beyond the school community, as residents of Asenemaso also stand to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water. Parents and community leaders who witnessed the event praised the Church’s humanitarian gesture, describing it as a solution that would ease the daily struggles of families in the area.

The mechanized borehole at Asenemaso M/A School adds to a growing list of projects by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across Ghana, ranging from water and sanitation to health and education, all aimed at supporting human development and complementing the efforts of government.
