The Adum Central Police Church in Kumasi was filled today 28th August 2025 with grief, prayer, and reverence as hundreds gathered to honor the memory of Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, one of eight service personnel who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash at Sikaman, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The thanksgiving and memorial service, organized by his widow and his mother, Rev. Stella Amma Anku Katso, the Ashanti Regional Prisons Chaplain, brought together family, clergy, security chiefs, colleagues, and sympathizers from all walks of life. The presence of uniformed officers from the military, police, fire, and immigration services created a striking picture of unity in mourning, underscoring the deep sense of loss that has shaken the security fraternity.

Flight Sergeant Mensah was eulogized as a loyal and selfless serviceman who embodied discipline, humility, and courage. His widow, though visibly heartbroken, stood resilient as she listened to tributes recounting her husband’s devotion both to his family and to Ghana. His mother, herself a respected chaplain, was consoled by relatives and colleagues as she wept for her only son, her grief resonating with all who understood the depth of a mother’s pain.

Clergymen from across denominations led the congregation in fervent prayer and intercession, lifting up the widow and mother in supplication for divine strength and comfort. With hands laid upon them at the altar, pastors asked for God’s protection and peace for the family left behind. Hymns of consolation filled the sanctuary, blending with sobs from mourners who struggled to contain their sorrow.

In his sermon, the presiding pastor reminded the congregation that though death silences the body, the legacy of a life lived in service to nation and God endures forever. He described Flight Sergeant Mensah as a patriot whose sacrifice must never be forgotten. “He did not die in vain,” the pastor declared. “His service, his discipline, and his love for Ghana will continue to inspire those who defend our land.”

The service drew to a close with the solemn sound of the bugle, its haunting notes ringing through the sanctuary as mourners rose in silence. The call, both final and eternal, symbolized farewell and undying honor for a soldier whose life of duty had ended too soon.

Though his passing leaves an irreplaceable void, the memory of Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah will live on—in the hearts of his family, his comrades in uniform, and a grateful nation.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
