Teachers and Students of Bechem Technical Institute Appeal for Urgent Infrastructural Support
Teachers and students of Bechem Technical Institute have jointly made a passionate appeal to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Education, the Ghana TVET Service, and other relevant stakeholders, urging urgent infrastructural support to address the worsening teaching, learning, and accommodation conditions at the school.
According to both staff and students, the Institute is currently grappling with a serious shortage of classroom blocks, leading to overcrowded learning environments that hinder effective teaching and learning. In some instances, students are forced to study under uncomfortable conditions, a situation they say is negatively affecting academic performance and discipline.

The appeal also draws attention to the lack of adequate classroom furniture, particularly desks and chairs for both male and female students. Teachers describe the situation as distressing, noting that the absence of basic furniture compromises student comfort, concentration, and overall learning outcomes.

In addition to classroom challenges, the school faces a critical shortage of staff accommodation. The absence of decent bungalows for teachers has affected staff morale and retention, with some commuting long distances daily. Management believes that providing staff housing would greatly improve teacher availability, punctuality, and commitment.
Boarding students, both boys and girls, have also added their voices to the appeal, calling for the construction of modern dormitory facilities to cater to the growing student population. Female students, in particular, are appealing for a girls’ dormitory that ensures safety, privacy, and dignity.

Equally concerning is the state of sanitation facilities on campus. Teachers and students are urging the immediate provision of ultra-modern toilet and bathroom facilities for both boys and girls, warning that the current situation poses serious health and hygiene risks and falls below the acceptable standards of a technical educational institution.
In conclusion, they have called on government authorities, development partners, non-governmental organizations, alumni, and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid. “Supporting Bechem Technical Institute is an investment in skills development and the future workforce of Ghana,” the appeal stated.
