Kumasi to Undergo Massive Transformation in 2025: Mayor Richard Boadi Unveils Bold Vision for Education, Health, Markets, and Infrastructure

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has laid out an ambitious roadmap to transform Ghana’s second-largest city into a modern, resilient, and inclusive metropolis through sweeping investments in education, healthcare, market infrastructure, and digital development.

Addressing members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) during the 1st Ordinary Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 9th Assembly, held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Mayor Boadi detailed several landmark initiatives that will be rolled out in 2025 as part of his administration’s renewed development agenda.

According to the Mayor, the KMA successfully completed 15 development projects across the metropolis in 2024, with two more currently ongoing. These completed projects, he emphasized, serve as a strong foundation for the rollout of even more transformative interventions in the year ahead.

Mayor Boadi noted that the Assembly’s strategic focus areas for 2025 will include education, health delivery, market redevelopment, urban infrastructure, and digital inclusion.

In the health sector, the Mayor announced plans to expand the existing KMA Clinic to include a new Pediatric Center to cater specifically to the health needs of children. The upgraded facility will also feature fully equipped male and female wards to improve inpatient care and decongest existing health facilities.

He stressed that the expansion is part of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring quality and equitable healthcare for all residents of Kumasi, especially vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

On market redevelopment, Mayor Boadi disclosed that the Assembly is finalizing plans to modernize key local markets within the metropolis, including the Krofrom Market. The project, once approved and funded, is expected to improve sanitation, boost local commerce, and provide safer and more dignified trading spaces for thousands of traders.

“These market upgrades are not only about infrastructure; they are about restoring dignity to our market women and improving the economy of Kumasi through well-structured commercial spaces,” he emphasized.

Turning to infrastructure, the Mayor hinted at upcoming major improvements in roads, drainage systems, and public spaces across the city. He acknowledged the persistent challenges of urban congestion and poor drainage, but assured the Assembly and residents that workable and sustainable solutions are being prioritized.

Mayor Boadi also touched on Kumasi’s digital future, stating that the Assembly is exploring smart city technologies to improve service delivery, enhance city management, and empower young people through digital innovation hubs.

He reaffirmed his commitment to stakeholder engagement, transparency, and accountable governance, and called on Assembly Members, traditional leaders, civil society, and residents to support the city’s development drive.

“The future of Kumasi lies in our collective effort. We are laying the groundwork for a more livable, prosperous, and forward-looking city. Let us all come on board,” Mayor Boadi concluded.

The 1st Ordinary Meeting was attended by Assembly Members, department heads, traditional authorities, and community stakeholders, all of whom welcomed the development vision and pledged their support to ensure its successful implementation.
