Toase SHS Appeals for Urgent Support to Rebuild Burnt Teachers’ Bungalows

The Headmaster of Toase Senior High School (TOSS) in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Joseph Britwum, has issued a heartfelt appeal to stakeholders to come to the aid of the school as it struggles to recover from a devastating fire that razed down four teachers’ bungalows four months ago.

Speaking to journalists during a recent engagement at the school premises, Mr. Britwum emphasized the urgent need for reconstruction to restore decent accommodation for teachers. According to him, the lack of teacher housing is gradually affecting staff morale and could negatively impact teaching and learning in the long term if not addressed swiftly.

“The affected bungalows housed several of our teachers and since the incident, they have had to either commute from distant locations or seek temporary shelter nearby. This situation is not sustainable,” he stated. “We are therefore appealing to government agencies, philanthropists, old students, local businesses, and the entire community to support us in rebuilding these essential facilities.”

The school, which has made remarkable academic progress in recent years, currently has over 2,000 students and depends heavily on the presence of resident teachers for effective supervision and discipline. The destruction of the bungalows, Mr. Britwum noted, poses a threat to the school’s performance and its ability to attract and retain qualified educators.

“The role of teachers goes beyond the classroom. Their presence on campus ensures better mentoring, security, and general student welfare. Without accommodation, we risk losing some of our best teachers,” the headmaster explained.

Mr. Britwum appealed for all forms of assistance – including financial contributions, building materials, technical support, and volunteer labor – to help fast-track the reconstruction process.

Some old students who visited the school recently expressed concern over the state of teacher accommodation and pledged to rally support among alumni to assist with rebuilding efforts.

A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also lamented the hardship caused by the loss of the bungalows, saying: “We are committed to giving our best, but it becomes difficult when your own living conditions are unstable.”

Toase Senior High School has called on all past students, benevolent organizations, traditional authorities, and individuals who value quality education to contribute to the rebuilding campaign.

Donations can be made directly to the school or through the designated contact lines at the school’s administration.

“Education is a shared responsibility,” Mr. Britwum concluded. “Together, we can restore what we’ve lost and build an even stronger future for our students.”
