Kejetia Queen Mothers Praise Mahama, Lordina for Leadership—Pledge Full Support for NDC

A powerful coalition of Queen Mothers from the Kejetia Market in Kumasi has declared strong support for former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing significant improvements in market governance and development efforts under his leadership.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing held in the heart of the market, the Queen Mothers expressed gratitude for the changes they’ve witnessed since the appointments of Dr. Frank Amoakohene as Ashanti Regional Minister and Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, widely known as Zuba, as Mayor of Kumasi. They stated that the new leadership has brought relief and direction to traders, restoring confidence in the future of the city’s commercial sector.

They described the once chaotic and frustrating management of the Kejetia Market as now stable and responsive, thanks to the restructuring efforts carried out by the current city authorities. According to them, conditions have improved both in terms of administration and trader relations, and the burden many of them endured under previous governments has been eased.

In an emotional tribute, several Queen Mothers hailed First Lady Lordina Mahama, describing her as the unseen hand behind her husband’s thoughtful leadership. They credited her wise counsel as a major influence behind the appointments of capable individuals like Dr. Amoakohene and Mayor Zuba, and labeled her as the pillar behind President Mahama’s accomplishments. They said her dedication to women, families, and market traders has always been visible, even without seeking public recognition.

While commending the progress made so far, the Queen Mothers also drew attention to several uncompleted projects that they believe only President Mahama can properly finish. Chief among these are the second phase of the Kejetia-Central Market redevelopment and the stalled Krofrom Market project. They passionately called on Mahama to return to office and complete these initiatives, which they described as critical to the livelihood of thousands of women and families in the Ashanti Region.

They also appealed for urgent attention to the deplorable condition of roads within Kumasi and other surrounding trading areas, arguing that bad roads not only damage goods but increase the daily hardship traders face.

The Queen Mothers ended the briefing with a clear and united pledge of loyalty to the NDC, promising to rally their communities and fellow traders to vote for the party in the upcoming elections. Their endorsement signals a potential political shift in a region traditionally dominated by the opposition, as they declared their intent to actively campaign for Mahama’s return to power.

As they chanted slogans and sang in solidarity, the message from Kejetia was clear: the women who fuel the region’s economy are ready to back the leadership they believe understands their needs and delivers on their hopes.
