Oseikrom Assembly Member and UTV Obuasi Correspondent Hon. Stephen Sekyere Honored with National Heroes Award

In a powerful display of appreciation for local leadership and dedicated journalism, the Assembly Member for Oseikrom Electoral Area and UTV Obuasi Correspondent, Hon. Stephen Sekyere, has been honored with the 2025 National Heroes Award for his unwavering commitment to community development and media excellence.

The grand event, held in Obuasi over the weekend, brought together a host of dignitaries, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and media practitioners. Organized by the Ghana Heroes Foundation, the awards celebrate individuals who demonstrate extraordinary service, integrity, and impact in their respective fields.

Hon. Stephen Sekyere, who doubles as both a respected Assembly Member and a seasoned journalist with UTV, was praised for his unique ability to blend public service with fearless journalism. Over the years, he has reported extensively on issues affecting the Obuasi enclave and its surrounding communities—highlighting challenges in health, education, infrastructure, and governance, while using his political office to facilitate real solutions.

In his capacity as Assembly Member for Oseikrom, Hon. Sekyere has championed several developmental projects, including the renovation of schools, construction of culverts, support for youth employment programs, and sanitation drives that have significantly improved community living conditions. His leadership has been described as inclusive, proactive, and people-centered.

Receiving the award, Hon. Sekyere expressed heartfelt appreciation to his constituents, colleagues in the media, and the award organizers for recognizing his dual roles in governance and journalism. “This award is a symbol of the collective work we are doing in Oseikrom and Obuasi at large. I dedicate it to the people whose stories we tell and whose hopes inspire me every day—whether through the microphone or community action,” he said.

The organizers described Hon. Sekyere as a rare blend of courage, humility, and leadership, and commended him for consistently using his platform to amplify marginalized voices and influence positive change.

Residents of Oseikrom electoral area and media colleagues in Obuasi have since lauded the award, noting that it is a well-deserved recognition of a man who has become a beacon of hope in local governance and responsible journalism.

The National Heroes Award continues to shine a spotlight on unsung leaders across Ghana whose efforts may not always make headlines but leave lasting footprints in their communities and beyond.
