Sunyani West MP Condemns Violence at Ablekuman North During Re-run Elections

The Member of Parliament for West, Hon. Millicent Yeboah, has raised concerns about the violence that occurred at Ablekuman North during re-run elections.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Yeboah emphasized that Ghana is a beacon of democracy, and election violence should be condemned regardless of whether the government is led by the NPP or NDC.
She stressed the importance of leaders being vigilant with their comments before, during, and after elections.
Regarding the Ablekuman North incident, Hon. Yeboah stated that the violence should be condemned. She commended the security forces for quickly coming to the aid of the former Member of Parliament.
Hon. Yeboah also highlighted the need to review and amend the “anti-vigilantism” bill to address any loopholes, believing that with proper legislation, such incidents won’t recur.
She noted that when President John Mahama assumed office and was concerned about similar occurrences, he quickly issued a statement.
Hon. Millicent Yeboah believes that with the current female Vice President also showing concern and condemning violence, the Ablekuman North incident and previous ones will be investigated, and justice will prevail.
Hon. Millicent Yeboah continued her statement, urging Members of Parliament to be extra careful with their comments.
She noted that while comments can mobilize grassroots support, they shouldn’t forget that these comments can draw innocent people, including children, into the conflict.
Ultimately, some individuals may be arrested, others hospitalized, and some may even die as a result of the violence.
She asked if Members of Parliament could exercise caution in this regard.
Hon. Millicent Yeboah further expressed happiness that, as part of today’s youth, they are learning from these experiences, especially with discussions of such incidents being raised on the floor of Parliament.
