The Ashanti New Town community in Kumasi woke up to a heartbreaking scene on Monday morning after a commercial minibus (trotro) driver was found dead in his vehicle under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, described as a man in his mid-30s, was discovered motionless behind the steering wheel of his minibus, which had been parked by the roadside since dawn. Passersby initially assumed he was resting, but after hours without movement, concern grew.
Some residents approached the vehicle and attempted to speak to him, only to realize he was unresponsive. The Manhyia Police were called to the scene, along with emergency medical personnel, who sadly confirmed that the man had passed away.
According to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, who visited the scene shortly after the incident, many eyewitnesses were left stunned, struggling to comprehend how such a tragedy could happen so quietly in their midst.
“There was no noise, no cry for help—just silence,” one eyewitness recounted. “It’s very scary and painful to witness something like this.”
At the time of filing this report, the exact cause of death had not been determined. Police officials have confirmed that no signs of foul play or physical injury were observed at the scene. The body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the truth behind the sudden death. Meanwhile, the community is calling for better health checks and support for commercial drivers, many of whom work under extreme pressure and fatigue.
“He might have had a health condition we didn’t know about. These drivers suffer in silence,” said another resident.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
