The Suame Municipal Assembly has distributed a total of 10,000 birds to selected beneficiaries under the government’s Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, a flagship programme aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting household economic empowerment through poultry farming.
The distribution exercise, which formed part of the pilot phase of the initiative, took place at the forecourt of the Suame Municipal Assembly and attracted scores of beneficiaries from various communities within the municipality. Each beneficiary received 50 birds, with hundreds of residents benefiting from the intervention.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, explained that the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative is designed to provide sustainable income opportunities for residents, particularly those seeking to venture into small-scale poultry production. He noted that the programme aligns with the government’s broader agenda of boosting local production, reducing unemployment, and enhancing food security.

Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah urged beneficiaries to take the project seriously and strictly adhere to the technical guidance and best practices provided by agricultural extension officers to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative. He emphasized that proper management of the birds, including feeding, housing, and disease control, would be critical to achieving the intended economic benefits.

The MCE further assured beneficiaries of the Assembly’s continued support and monitoring to ensure the project yields positive outcomes and possibly expands to cover more residents in subsequent phases.

Some of the beneficiary farmers expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Suame Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, for the timely intervention. They described the initiative as a life-changing opportunity that would help improve their household incomes and livelihoods, pledging their commitment to making the project a success.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative is part of ongoing efforts to empower grassroots communities through practical, income-generating interventions that promote self-reliance and economic resilience.
