Suame MCE Unveils Inter-Community U-17 Football League to Promote Unity Among Youth

The Suame Municipal Assembly has officially launched an Inter-Community Under-17 Football League, a visionary initiative designed to promote peace, unity, and youth empowerment through sports. The colourful event, held at the Suame Municipal Assembly forecourt, attracted a large crowd, including football coaches, youth leaders, assembly members, and representatives from the Suame Municipal Police Command, as well as community stakeholders who expressed immense enthusiasm for the project.

In his keynote address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, said the competition was conceived to use football as a unifying tool among the youth of the municipality. He noted that beyond the excitement of the game, the tournament seeks to instill discipline, mutual respect, and teamwork — values essential for community cohesion and national development.

“This is not just about football,” Hon. Owusu Ansah emphasized. “It is about peace, togetherness, and the future of our young people. Sports have the power to unite, to heal, and to build character. I urge all participating teams to play with discipline, love, and respect, because the real victory lies in the unity we build among ourselves.”

He explained that the Assembly was intentional about investing in youth-oriented initiatives such as sports and entrepreneurship programmes to keep young people productively engaged, thereby reducing the likelihood of social vices and promoting community development.

The MCE further lauded the collaboration between the Assembly and various partners who made the initiative possible. The Inter-Community U-17 Football League, he said, enjoys strong backing from H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Suame Municipal Assembly, reflecting a shared commitment to youth empowerment through sports and recreation.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Kronum Astroturf Park, with teams from across the municipality set to compete for the ultimate championship trophy. The participating communities will include some of Suame’s most vibrant football zones, each fielding talented young players eager to showcase their skills and represent their neighborhoods with pride.

Hon. Owusu Ansah expressed gratitude to the technical committee, sponsors, and local football coaches for their invaluable support, and appealed to corporate entities and philanthropists to partner with the Assembly to sustain the competition in the coming years. He also encouraged parents, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders to rally behind the initiative, stressing that youth development is a shared responsibility.

“This is a legacy project that we hope will not only nurture future football stars but also serve as a lasting platform for peacebuilding and social integration,” he added.

The Suame Inter-Community U-17 Football League marks a significant milestone in the municipality’s commitment to harnessing sports for social transformation. Organizers say the competition will be held annually to identify and groom young football talents while deepening unity among the people of Suame.

As anticipation builds ahead of the opening matches at the Kronum Astroturf Park, residents and sports enthusiasts have been urged to turn out in their numbers to support their teams and uphold the spirit of peace, discipline, and fair play that the tournament represents.
