Students of New Papase Apostolic Basic School in the Bia West District of the Western North Region are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to address the deteriorating condition of their school buildings, which they say now pose a serious threat to their safety and academic progress.

The students made the appeal during an interview in which they expressed deep concern about the alarming state of the classrooms in which they study daily. According to them, several parts of the school structures have deteriorated significantly, with broken walls, weakened roofing, and visible structural damage that puts both pupils and teachers at risk.

They explained that the worsening condition of the buildings has created fear among the student population, as sections of the structures appear unstable and could collapse if urgent repairs are not undertaken. The students described the current situation as extremely worrying, warning that the buildings could easily become a death trap if immediate intervention is not provided.

Beyond the safety risks, the students noted that the deteriorating infrastructure has also negatively affected teaching and learning at the school. They indicated that the dusty environment within the classrooms, coupled with the fragile state of the structures, makes it difficult for them to concentrate during lessons.

The students further revealed that the situation has discouraged some teachers from remaining at the school. According to them, several teachers have either requested transfers or are considering leaving due to concerns about their safety and the challenging teaching environment.

They therefore appealed to the government, the Ghana Education Service, and other stakeholders in the education sector to urgently come to their aid by rehabilitating the damaged classroom blocks and providing safe and conducive learning facilities.

The students stressed that access to safe educational infrastructure is essential for effective learning and urged authorities not to delay action, emphasizing that their safety and future depend on swift intervention.
