STEM Innovation in Action: Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS Designs Aircraft for Ghana Air Force

Afua Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School has once again demonstrated its commitment to technological advancement and innovation in Ghana by donating a specially designed radio-controlled aircraft to the Ghana Air Force Aviation College. The groundbreaking project, spearheaded by the school’s STEM Department, highlights the school’s dedication to fostering practical skills and scientific excellence among its students.

The aircraft, named GHF Susan in honor of a third-year STEM student, is intended to serve as an educational tool, enhancing practical training for cadets and students at the Ghana Air Force Aviation College. The donation was officially presented to the college on Monday, October 20, 2025, in a ceremony led by Engineer Ferdinand Sam, a tutor at Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS.

During the handover, Engineer Sam expressed gratitude to the college authorities for their warm reception and reiterated the school’s commitment to undertaking life-changing projects that have both educational and national significance. He emphasized that the school’s STEM Department continually strives to develop solutions that not only nurture student creativity but also contribute meaningfully to the country’s technological landscape.

The model was received by Wing Commander Ntiamoah, the Commanding Officer of the college, on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff. In his remarks, he commended the school for its innovative spirit and noted that the radio-controlled aircraft would serve as an important addition to the college’s practical training resources.

This donation marks yet another milestone in Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS’s growing partnership with state institutions to promote technological development in Ghana. The school has a strong track record of innovation, having previously designed drones and other technological tools for the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Air Force, further demonstrating its role as a hub for nurturing STEM excellence.

The initiative underscores the significance of equipping young students with practical skills and exposure to real-world applications of science and technology. By bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical implementation, Afua Kobi Ampem Girls SHS continues to cultivate a generation of innovators ready to contribute to Ghana’s technological and scientific growth.

Through projects such as this, the school reaffirms its position as a leading institution in promoting STEM education and inspiring young women to explore careers in technology, aviation, and engineering, thereby strengthening Ghana’s capacity for innovation and development.
