The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has received a trophy from St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School in recognition of the exceptional performance of one of its students in the recently concluded Senior High School Athletics Competition.

The presentation was made during a courtesy call on the DCE by a delegation from the school, led by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Henry Mensah, and supported by the Headmaster, Eric Kyei, two sports officers, and the athlete at the centre of the honour, Blessed Owusu.

Blessed Owusu, a 15-year-old first-year student and a native of Atwima Yabi, emerged as the overall best athlete after an outstanding display that saw him win gold in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres events. His remarkable feat has not only brought pride to his school but also elevated the image of the Atwima Kwanwoma District on the regional and national sporting stage.
Further demonstrating his growing potential, the young sprinter secured a second-place finish at the highly competitive “Champion of Champions” event held in Cape Coast. His consistent excellence has earned him selection to represent Ghana at the upcoming World U-20 Championships to be held in the United States of America.

Receiving the delegation, Hon. Agyemang Asamoah commended the athlete for his discipline, determination, and dedication to excellence. She described his achievement as a testament to the immense talent within the district and a shining example for other young people to emulate.

She advised the young athlete to remain humble, focused, and grounded, urging him to seek spiritual guidance and uphold strong moral values while striving to balance his academic pursuits with his sporting ambitions. According to her, such a holistic approach would position him for sustained success both on and off the track.
In recognition of his achievement, the DCE presented Blessed Owusu with a cash reward of GH₵2,000 and assured him of the Assembly’s full support as he prepares to compete on the international stage. She reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting youth development through sports and other talent-nurturing initiatives.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Eric Kyei expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for its encouragement and support. He, however, appealed for assistance in acquiring a DRIP machine to help rehabilitate the school’s athletics track, noting that improved training facilities would significantly enhance performance and help nurture more talents like Blessed Owusu.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and local authorities in fostering youth development, while also celebrating excellence and inspiring the next generation of athletes within the Atwima Kwanwoma District.
