SSNIT Educates Asawase Presbyterian Basic School Pupils on Social Security During Mobile Service Week

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has extended its educational and sensitization campaign to the youth, with a special visit to Asawase Presbyterian Basic School in the Ashanti Region. The outreach was part of this year’s SSNIT Mobile Service Week and the organization’s 60th anniversary celebration, aiming to create early awareness among basic school students about the importance of social security and the pivotal role SSNIT plays in safeguarding the welfare of workers in Ghana.
On Monday, October 20, 2025, staff from SSNIT engaged both students and teachers of the Junior High School department in an interactive session on the operations, relevance, and benefits of SSNIT. The session included a reading exercise, during which SSNIT staff shared educational materials that simplified the concept of social security for the young learners.

Led by the Kumasi Area Manager of SSNIT, Mr. Henry Imoru, the team emphasized the need to bring SSNIT’s work closer to Ghanaians, explaining that Mobile Service Week was designed to extend the Trust’s services and education beyond its offices. Mr. Imoru encouraged the students to become ambassadors for SSNIT by sharing what they had learned with their families and communities, noting that understanding SSNIT’s operations at an early age would help the next generation appreciate the value of saving toward their retirement and contributing to national development. “We are change agents, so management felt it wise to imbue in you what it means to roll on SSNIT,” he said, highlighting the significance of the engagement.

The Assistant Headmaster of Asawase Presbyterian Basic School, Mr. Ofori Odamtey, expressed profound appreciation to SSNIT for choosing their school for such a meaningful exercise. He noted that the outreach had given both students and teachers a clearer understanding of SSNIT’s functions and the importance of social security. Mr. Odamtey also encouraged workers to take their SSNIT contributions seriously as a vital means of ensuring a secure and dignified retirement.

The SSNIT team’s visit was part of a nationwide exercise to reach communities, schools, and workplaces with education on social security while making its services more accessible to contributors and the general public. The outreach concluded with a pledge from SSNIT to continue its community engagement initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, education, and social protection for all Ghanaians.
