Six robbers linked to an a attack and robbery at the Kwaggafontein police station were arrested in eMahlaleni.

The police also recovered several firearms stolen from on-duty police officers. The gang is also linked to a business robbery.

In June 2022 a group of heavily armed men allegedly stormed the station near KwaMhlanga and headed straight to the weapons cache.

They reportedly fled with several state-issued firearms and ammunition. Since then, Mpumalanga police top cop, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has ordered the provincial police to mobilise maximum resources to ensure they arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

She assured the community that police intend to take down the suspects swiftly. The investigation is ongoing, and the police will provide an update on the developments soon.

Police recovered several firearms after they arrested six robbers linked to a police station attack and robbery.

However, it is not the first time that SAPS has been targeted in their own backyard. On 21 November last year, heavily armed suspects ransacked the Malamulele police station in Limpopo.

They stormed the police station at around 23:00 and held officers at gunpoint. Within minutes, the group had taken firearms and locked the on-duty officers inside a vehicle, according to police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe.

Later, after leaving the station, the suspects allegedly robbed a nearby food outlet and filling station. They robbed the businesses of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Manamela voiced concerns about the escalating unacceptable attack on police in the province.

She was speaking after yet another attack on police officers.

On Saturday 21 January 2023 seven gunmen opened fire on members of the Witbank Flying Squad on the N4 Highway. They stopped to assist a stranded motorist on the road.
