Sekyere Residents Demand Fair Representation in DCE Nomination, Advocate for Wallas Ababio

Residents of Sekyere, a section of the Afigya-Sekyere district , have expressed dissatisfaction over what they describe as years of marginalization in the appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs). Since the inception of the Fourth Republic, DCEs for the district have consistently been nominated from the Afigya side, leaving the Sekyere side, which includes towns such as Jamasi, Dawu, Boanim, and Amenase, feeling sidelined.

The residents are now calling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to break this trend and appoint their preferred candidate, Mr. Wallas Ababio, a native of Jamasi, as the next DCE for the Afigya Sekyere South District.

According to the residents, the Sekyere side has been overlooked for far too long despite its contributions to the district’s development. They believe appointing Mr. Ababio, an industrious son of the area, will correct what they perceive as a historical bias and ensure fairness in governance.

“We have been cheated for far too long. Successive governments have always selected DCEs from Afigya, ignoring Sekyere completely. This time, we will not take it lightly if our preferred candidate, Mr. Wallas Ababio, is overlooked,” a resident stated.

The residents highlighted Mr. Ababio’s qualifications and commitment to the development of the district, describing him as a capable leader who understands the challenges of the area and is best positioned to address them.

“Mr. Ababio is hardworking and has the experience needed to serve as DCE. He knows the needs of our people, and we are confident he will deliver if given the opportunity,” another resident added.

They also made a direct appeal to President Mahama, urging him to consider their request in the spirit of equity and inclusivity.

“We are appealing to President Mahama to appoint Mr. Wallas Ababio as DCE. It is time for Sekyere to have a representative in leadership. This will show that the government values every part of the district,” a community leader emphasized.

The residents warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to heightened dissatisfaction and tension within the district, as they believe their side has been unfairly treated for too long.

As the Afigya Sekyere South District awaits the announcement of DCE nominations, residents of Sekyere remain hopeful that their voices will be heard and their grievances addressed. For them, appointing Mr. Wallas Ababio represents a step towards fairness and balanced representation in the district’s leadership.
