Sekyere Kumawu DCE In Hot Waters

Some aggrieved members and sympathisers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sekyere Kumawu district of the Ashanti region have petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo for the removal of their District chief executive (DCE), Samuel Addai Agyekum for his gross insubordination towards the party executives in the district.
At a press conference held at Bodomase yesterday, the group also alleged that their DCE failed to support the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Basoah during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, instead supported the then independent parliamentary candidate financially.
With these accusations, the group numbering over 500 have petitioned President Nana Addo and the party hierarchy in the region not to reappoint Hon. Agyekum as the DCE of the district.

Cladded in red attires and armbands, the angry members of the party both the aged and youth vowed to ensure that Hon. Agyekum is sacked.

“The DCE is disrespectful and is not ready to heed to the advice of the party executives. He has been going to the heels of the Member of Parliament and to the extent of refusing to heed to the wise counsels of some influential regional members of the party to resolve the impasse in the constituency,” George Ofosu, the spokeperson of the group alleged.

“If the President decides to maintain Hon. Agyekum as the DCE, then the party should prepare to loose abysmally in 2024 elections because the DCE is not a unifier but always causing confusion among the party executives in the district,” they stated.
The group among other things are pleading with the president to replace Mr. Agyekum with a “proactive, industrious, well connected person who is ready to work in harmony with the MP” to ensure the development of the district and the party’s popularity in the constituency.
