Sekyere Afram Plains Youth Urge Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee to Reject Constituency Chairman’s Nomination for DCE Position

The Concerned Youth of Sekyere Afram Plains have urged the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee to respect the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Secretariat’s directive and remove Mr. Abubakar Issaka, the constituency chairman, from the list of nominees for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position in the Sekyere Afram Plains District.

In a statement to the media, the group referenced a directive from the NDC National Secretariat, signed by Mr. Fiifi Quartey, which stipulates that MMDCE nominees should not come from the same town or area as the Member of Parliament (MP) to promote balanced representation within the district. The Concerned Youth argue that Mr. Issaka’s inclusion violates this principle, as both he and the MP for Sekyere Afram Plains, Hajia Nasira Afrah Gyekye, are from the same town—Samso.

The group expressed concerns about fairness in the selection process, claiming that Hajia Gyekye is actively advocating for Mr. Issaka’s selection despite the directive. This has raised concerns among constituents, who believe such a decision would undermine inclusiveness and create a perceived imbalance in district leadership.

The Concerned Youth also highlighted that the Anyinofi enclave, a community within the district, has long been excluded from holding political leadership positions since the district’s creation. They emphasized the need for the NDC to break this trend by choosing a leader from the Anyinofi enclave, ensuring broader representation across all areas of the district.

During a media interview, the group’s Communications Director, Osagyefo Akwasi Yeboah Prince, put forward their recommendation for Mr. Owusu Mensah Charles, one of the eight nominees from the Anyinofi enclave. They believe that selecting Mr. Mensah Charles would not only align with the party’s directives but also honor a promise made by NDC National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, during his campaign visit to the community.

The Concerned Youth stressed that choosing a leader from Anyinofi would affirm the NDC’s commitment to inclusivity and fairness, ensuring that all communities in Sekyere Afram Plains are equally represented in the district’s leadership.
