Savannah Regional Minister-Designate Hon. Salisu Bia Wurbe Pays Courtesy Call on Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I

Hon. Salisu Bia Wurbe, the newly appointed Savannah Regional Minister-designate, has officially paid a courtesy call on Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo. This visit marked a traditional protocol where the Minister-designate informed the king of his appointment and sought his support for the tasks ahead.

Appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Wurbe’s appointment is part of the first list of regional ministers. A barrister and the current Savannah Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Wurbe previously served as the District Chief Executive for the Central Gonja District under the administration of President John Evans Attah Mills.

After the visit, Hon. Wurbe spoke to the media, stating that the purpose of his meeting with the Yagbonwura was to formally communicate his appointment and seek the king’s blessings and advice as he prepares for his role in addressing the region’s challenges.

Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I praised Hon. Wurbe for respecting traditional customs and shared his counsel, urging the new Minister-designate to remain truthful and transparent in his leadership, prioritizing the well-being of the people.

The appointment of Hon. Wurbe has been widely welcomed, with many in the region viewing it as a step toward addressing the various socio-economic challenges facing the area. His next official step will be his vetting by the parliamentary committee on January 27, followed by his swearing-in as the substantive Regional Minister.

This visit sets the stage for a strong working relationship between the regional government and traditional authorities, aiming to enhance development in the Savannah Region.
