Hon Sam Pyne, Former Kumasi Mayor and Vice Chairperson hopeful for the NPP.

Former Kumasi Mayor and NPP Vice Chairperson hopeful, Sam Pyne, has delivered a blistering critique of the Mahama-led NDC administration, accusing the government of demonstrating a consistent pattern of insensitivity toward the plight of Ghanaians.

Speaking during a live political discussion on Hello FM, Hon. Pyne argued that the government’s recent policy decisions, specifically regarding cocoa pricing and the security of cross-border traders betray a lack of empathy for the working class.

Cocoa Crisis:
Hon. Pyne expressed disbelief over the government’s decision to reduce cocoa prices, marking a historical low point for the industry.

He labeled the move as both “lazy and insensitive,” suggesting that farmers are being forced to pay the price for administrative incompetence.

Mismanagement at COCOBOD:
Hon. Pyne alleged that the management of COCOBOD exercised poor judgment by hoarding cocoa in hopes of a price surge that never materialized.

The NPP Contrast:
He contrasted this with the previous Akufo-Addo administration, which he claimed acted proactively by securing forward sales and ensuring farmers received premium prices regardless of market volatility.

“The NDC, true to form, has demonstrated a total disregard for the welfare of cocoa farmers. Instead of implementing remedial measures to support production, they have chosen to dump the consequences of their mismanagement onto the poor farmer,” Hon. Pyne stated.

Neglect of Tomato Traders:
The former KMA boss also highlighted the government’s response to the recent insurgent attacks in the Sahel region, specifically in Burkina Faso, where several Ghanaian tomato traders were targeted.

Hon. Pyne criticized the NDC’s “apathetic posture,” noting that while families were mourning loved ones lost in the violence, the Vice President appeared to prioritize social engagements with women in leadership over national commiseration.

This perceived lack of urgency, he argued, is a clear justification for labeling the administration as detached from the realities of the citizenry.

Accusations of Hypocrisy:
Concluding his submission, Hon. Pyne pointed out what he described as the “blatant hypocrisy” of the NDC.

He reminded listeners that while in opposition, the NDC frequently demanded fuel price reductions even amidst rising global oil costs.

Broken Promises:
Despite promising to improve the fortunes of farmers, the government has announced a reduction of nearly GH₵ 1,000 in cocoa prices.

Failed Proactivity:
Hon Pyne maintained that had the government been proactive in its international trade strategy, it could have safeguarded the livelihoods of farmers rather than slashing their income during an economic crisis.
